Olubadan of Ibadan Advocates Intense Public Education on AI Implications
In response to the increasing global adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has strongly emphasized the critical need for widespread public education on the implications of AI. He stressed that raising awareness about AI usage will help individuals understand its capabilities and prevent the misuse of its intended purposes.
University Visit and Conference Endorsement
The monarch made these remarks during a courtesy visit from Dominican University, Samonda, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jacinta Opara. The visit aimed to strengthen ties between the university and the traditional institution while securing royal endorsement for the upcoming International Interdisciplinary Conference on AI and the Human Future, scheduled for May 6 to 7, 2026.
The conference, themed "AI and the Human Future: Ethics, Communication, and the Voices of Women and Youth at the Margins," follows the university's successful hosting of the 2026 Aquinas Day Colloquium, which was widely regarded as a landmark intellectual gathering exploring new perspectives on scripture and African cultural identity.

Drawing from his extensive experience in public service, Olubadan highlighted the importance of balancing complex leadership decisions with the everyday needs of the people. He urged the institution to ensure broad public awareness of the conference to maximize its impact.
Expressing optimism about Dominican University's future, the monarch envisioned it emerging as a global hub that seamlessly blends technological advancement with cultural heritage. He commended the high standards of Catholic education, drawing parallels with institutions he had encountered in Belgium, and praised the university's growing reputation for academic excellence in Nigeria and beyond.

The Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Dean of Science, Professor Tim Odiaka, provided insights into the institution's origins. Dominican University was established in 2016 to mark the 800th anniversary of the Dominican Order, making it the first Dominican university in Africa.
Professor Odiaka commended Olubadan's leadership, describing it as instrumental in sustaining peace and stability in Ibadanland. He reaffirmed the university's commitment to community development, pledging that its academic and research expertise would remain available to support the palace in policy advisory and developmental initiatives.
