A former classmate of the viral naval officer Lieutenant Yerima has shared a remarkable story from their school days that reveals the officer's disciplined character even as a young student.

The Unforgettable School Encounter

According to Olaniyi Festus Ayoolami, who posted on his Facebook account, he attended Victory Comprehensive College in Elelenwo, Port Harcourt with Lieutenant Yerima. He recalled that the officer, whom they fondly called MD, was known for his no-nonsense approach to discipline even during their secondary school days.

The former classmate shared a particularly memorable incident when he arrived late to school one day. Lieutenant Yerima was on prefect duty at the school gate alongside their English teacher, Mr. Apama. What happened next left a lasting impression on him.

The Day of Discipline

MD flogged hell out of me one day, the classmate recalled in his post. I came late, and our English master, Mr. Apama, was on duty alongside MD.

He described how Lieutenant Yerima confronted him about his habitual lateness. The young Yerima reportedly told him: Gambo, see your house, see school, and you're always late. It is either you go home or you take the flogging.

The disciplinary action was so impactful that the classmate admitted he cried for a whole week afterward. It took the intervention of other classmates, including someone named Oluchi, to eventually resolve the situation.

Remembering Yerima's School Personality

Beyond the disciplinary incident, the former classmate painted a vivid picture of Lieutenant Yerima's school days. He described the officer as the most jovial and VCC number one comedian who nevertheless maintained strict standards.

He also remembered Yerima's family members who attended the same school, noting that him, his elder brother Abdul, and his junior brother were brilliant, hot-headed, comedians who melted hearts and were always neat.

The classmate expressed pride in their alma mater, describing Victory Comprehensive College as an institution that produces PH today's Kpokrikpo and noting that he's a proud mixture of Elelenwo girls and VCC.

Reflecting on Lieutenant Yerima's current military career, the classmate wasn't surprised, stating simply: Military is in MD's bloodline.

The heartfelt recollection comes amid the viral video featuring Lieutenant Yerima and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike that has captured national attention. The story provides a rare glimpse into the formative years of the officer who has become a social media sensation.
