Senator Tokunbo Abiru, representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, has officially commissioned the 4.6-kilometre Takatuku-Dandamu Road in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State. He described the project as a model of infrastructure designed to enhance the livelihoods of rural communities.
The road inauguration was part of activities commemorating the third anniversary of Governor Ahmed Aliyu's administration. Speaking as chairman of the event, Abiru emphasized that investments in infrastructure should be evaluated based on their impact on citizens, noting that road projects stimulate economic activities and improve access to social services.
Abiru commended the Sokoto State governor for various projects in healthcare, education, agriculture, water supply, housing, youth empowerment, and security, stating that the administration has maintained steady progress in delivering public services.
The Takatuku-Dandamu Road, executed under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) with support from the World Bank, the French Development Agency, and the Federal Government, is expected to improve transportation, facilitate the movement of farm produce, and enhance access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities for residents of Bodinga and neighboring communities.
Abiru also praised President Bola Tinubu's economic policies, stating that federal reforms have strengthened states' capacity to undertake development projects through improved revenues and increased allocations. He noted that the growing fiscal space available to state governments has enabled greater investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions stressed the importance of prudent resource management and accountability in governance, emphasizing that leadership should be measured by its impact on citizens' welfare. He urged Sokoto residents to continue supporting ongoing development initiatives and called for sustained backing for both federal and state governments.
Abiru also paid tribute to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, for his role in promoting peace and national unity, while acknowledging the contributions of former Governor Aliyu Wamakko to the state's development.
“President Bola Tinubu has shown uncommon courage and statesmanship in undertaking reforms aimed at repositioning the economy. More importantly, his administration has enhanced the financial capacity of states through improved revenue streams and increased allocations, thereby empowering governors to embark on ambitious developmental projects,” Abiru said.
“The impact is becoming increasingly visible across the country. Governors now possess greater capacity to invest in roads, healthcare, education, agriculture, and social infrastructure. Sokoto State, under the able leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has effectively leveraged these opportunities to deliver tangible dividends of democracy to the people,” he added.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, and community stakeholders from across the state.
