Hub Foundation Urges Community to Take Ownership of Solar Water Project in Taraba
The National President of Hub Foundation, Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps, has made a strong appeal to community leaders in Jalibgo, Taraba State, to take full ownership of a newly commissioned motorized solar-powered water project. This call was issued over the weekend during the official commissioning ceremony, where Kataps highlighted the critical role of community participation in ensuring the long-term sustainability of such initiatives.
Emphasis on Sustainability and Local Management
Kataps stressed that while the Foundation is dedicated to enhancing access to clean water in underserved regions, the enduring success of these projects hinges on how effectively host communities manage and maintain the facilities. He noted that the project was specifically designed to tackle the persistent issue of inadequate potable water access in Jalibgo and its neighboring areas. To this end, he urged local leaders to mobilize residents to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and misuse, underscoring that a sense of collective responsibility is essential for its durability.
Furthermore, Kataps encouraged the community to establish a local management committee to oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the water system. He assured that the Foundation would continue to offer guidance as needed but would rely heavily on the community's cooperation to ensure the project fulfills its intended purpose for years to come.
Commendations and Community Response
During the commissioning, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, praised the Foundation for its initiative and called on other organizations to follow suit. Additionally, the state Chairman of the Foundation and Taraba State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mike Dio Jen, explained that the project was executed to provide the community with access to clean and safe water, addressing a fundamental need.
Community representatives at the event expressed their gratitude to Hub Foundation, describing the project as both timely and impactful. They pledged to safeguard the facility and ensure it benefits all residents, reinforcing their commitment to its upkeep.
Broader Development Efforts
The motorized solar-powered water project is part of Hub Foundation's wider efforts to promote sustainable development and improve living conditions in rural communities across Nigeria. This initiative aligns with broader goals of enhancing infrastructure and fostering self-reliance in underserved areas.
