Dangote Cement's Transport Unit Embarks on Extensive Tree-Planting Initiative

In a significant move to bolster environmental sustainability, the Transport Unit of Dangote Cement Plc, based in Obajana, has launched a large-scale tree-planting exercise and seedling distribution program. This initiative commemorates the 2026 International Day of Forests, highlighting the company's ongoing commitment to ecological preservation.

Commitment to Climate Action and Biodiversity

According to a company statement, the effort involved planting hundreds of trees and providing seedlings to 13 local schools. Speaking at the event, Divisional Director Transport (DDT), Col. Hemant Rana (retired), emphasized the critical role of forests in climate regulation, biodiversity support, and resource provision for humanity. Represented by Assistant Divisional Director Transport, Abdullahi Aliyu, Rana noted that this awareness session and practical demonstration align with Dangote Cement's broader mission to educate stakeholders and combat deforestation and environmental degradation.

The symbolic tree-planting and seedling distribution aim to foster a culture of environmental stewardship among younger generations, encouraging long-term sustainability practices.

Forests as Life-Support Systems

Olumide Balogun, Sustainability Lead of Dangote Cement Transport Nigeria, elaborated on the importance of forests, describing them as essential life-support systems rather than mere collections of trees. He highlighted their functions in regulating rainfall, improving air quality, preventing soil erosion, and providing habitats for numerous species. Balogun urged all stakeholders to support nurturing the planted trees to maturity, ensuring their lasting impact.

Reaffirming Corporate Responsibility

Marcos-Akuso Daniel, Human Resources and Admin Manager at the Transport's Post Trip Inspection Unit, reinforced the company's dedication during the event. He stated that marking the International Day of Forests is not only about celebrating achievements but also about reaffirming commitments to plant more trees, deepen community participation, and strengthen Dangote Cement's role as a responsible corporate citizen.

This initiative underscores Dangote Cement's proactive steps in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria.
