Edo Communities Urge Federal Government to Renew Tompolo's Pipeline Surveillance Contract
The Edo State chapter of Host Communities Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM) has made a strong appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging the renewal of Chief Government "Tompolo" Ekpemupolo's oil pipeline surveillance contract. This call comes in light of the significant improvements in security and oil production observed in the Niger Delta region since his company, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, took over the surveillance operations.
Significant Reduction in Pipeline Vandalism and Oil Theft
Speaking at a meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, the state Chairman of HOSTCOM, Mr. Kenneth Kenebragha Aduwaye, highlighted the remarkable success achieved by Tantita Security Services. He emphasized that the company has been highly effective in curbing pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, and the operation of illegal refineries across the Niger Delta.
Before the involvement of Tantita Security Services, the region was plagued by frequent oil spills resulting from vandalism, which caused severe environmental degradation. Aduwaye noted that these incidents were once commonplace, but the situation has drastically improved under the current surveillance arrangement.
Boost in Nigeria's Oil Production Figures
Aduwaye provided compelling data to support the call for contract renewal. He pointed out that Nigeria's oil production had previously plummeted to a dismal 1.3 million barrels per day, far below the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota of 2.3 million barrels per day.
Since Tompolo's company assumed control, there has been a substantial increase in production, with figures rising to 1.870 million barrels per day. This surge positions Nigeria closer to meeting its OPEC quota, with expectations of further growth potentially reaching 2 million barrels per day soon.
Strong Advocacy for Contract Continuation
In his address, Aduwaye firmly stated, "There's no need for the Federal Government to terminate the contract with Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited." He praised High Chief Government Ekpemupolo's efforts in maintaining peace and security in the oil-rich region, attributing the decline in criminal activities directly to his company's effective surveillance.
The chairman elaborated on the broader economic impact, noting that the Nigerian oil industry, which serves as the mainstay of the nation's economy, has benefited immensely from the improved security measures. He drew a sports analogy to reinforce his point, saying, "As they say in sport, you don't change a winning team."
Call to Action for Federal Government
Edo HOSTCOM is now formally calling on President Bola Tinubu to renew the pipeline surveillance contract for Ekpemupolo's company. Aduwaye emphasized that Tantita Security Services has not only delivered on its mandate but has also made the work of various host communities easier by ensuring a safer operating environment.
The community leaders believe that the company's proven track record in enhancing security and boosting oil production warrants continued support and encouragement from the federal authorities.
