Days after Enugu State unveiled its new double-decker buses, a viral video showing one of the buses stranded in floodwaters has sparked debate online over drainage, infrastructure, and urban development.
The footage, captured on Nsukka Road after heavy rainfall, shows a state-branded commercial bus marooned in floodwaters. Passengers were seen disembarking and wading through the water, with an onlooker directing them to relay their experience to Governor Peter Mbah.
Public Reaction
The video has triggered mixed reactions. Some Nigerians criticized the state government for prioritizing flashy buses over proper drainage, while others blamed residents for dumping refuse in drainage channels. The bus bore the slogan 'Tomorrow is here,' which many found ironic given the flooding.
Infrastructure Concerns
The Nsukka Road flooding is a recurring problem, with residents alleging neglect by authorities due to blocked underground drainage. Governor Mbah had inspected the road dualisation project in February, setting an October 2026 completion deadline, but it remains unclear if drainage issues will be resolved.
As of publication, the Enugu State Government had not issued an official response. The incident has shifted the narrative from the bus launch's excitement to broader infrastructure challenges.
