FG Opens Portal for N1m Loans to Buy Laptops, Smartphones, Tablets

The Federal Government of Nigeria has opened the application portal for the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, which offers loans of up to N1 million to help Nigerians purchase laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other digital devices on credit.

The initiative is managed by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) and is designed to improve access to digital devices by providing consumer credit to eligible citizens. Applications are being accepted through an online portal at credicorp.ng/clickd, open to salary earners, students, freelancers, self-employed individuals, business owners, job seekers, and NYSC members.

How to Apply for the C.L.I.C.K.D. Loan

Applicants must complete an eight-step registration form on the official website. The process begins by visiting credicorp.ng/clickd and clicking the "I'm Interested" button. Applicants then provide personal details, including their state of residence (all 36 states and the FCT are available) and employment status, with options including Salary Earner, Freelancer/Self-Employed, Business Owner, Student, Job Seeker, or NYSC Member.

Applicants may optionally disclose their monthly income, ranging from below N100,000 to above N1 million. Those enrolled in digital talent programmes such as 3MTT, Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa, Genesys Tech Hub, or others must indicate their participation.

Device Selection and Purpose

Applicants must specify the device they intend to purchase, choosing from laptop, smartphone, tablet, or other digital devices. They must also state the reason for needing the device, with multiple selections allowed, including learning and certifications, work or remote work, freelancing, business growth, school, software development, content creation, or other purposes.

Additionally, applicants indicate how they learned about the C.L.I.C.K.D. programme, selecting from options such as 3MTT, social media, friend or family, school, employer, Google Search, or other.

Submission and Consent

Before submitting, applicants must tick three consent boxes confirming that the information provided is accurate, they agree to be contacted regarding their application, and they consent to CREDICORP and its partners using their information to assess eligibility. Once all sections are completed and confirmations made, the form can be submitted for consideration.

The C.L.I.C.K.D. programme aims to bridge the digital divide by making devices more affordable through consumer credit. According to reports, the initiative is part of broader government efforts to enhance digital literacy and economic participation.

In a related development, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released an exposure draft proposing the establishment of a 30-member Mediation and Dispute Resolution Panel (MDRP) to strengthen consumer protection in the financial system. The draft, signed by the acting director of the Development Finance Advisory Department, Paul Oluikpe, outlines that the MDRP will operate under the Secured Transactions in Movable Assets (STMA) Act, 2017, aiming to boost confidence in Nigeria’s financial ecosystem.
