Lady with 3.24kW Solar System Cuts Bill from N80k to N713

A lady who installed a 3.24kW solar inverter system six months ago has shared her experience on social media, revealing that her monthly electricity bill dropped from ₹5,500 (approximately N80,090) to just ₹49 (about N713). The individual, identified as @poojaofficial5 on Twitter, described the solar panels as the best investment she made in 2026, outperforming stocks or gold.

Solar System Powers Five Household Appliances

According to her post, the 3.24kW on-grid solar system generates between 15 to 16 units per day during winter and 19 to 20 units per day in summer. This energy output is sufficient to run two air conditioners, a refrigerator, a washing machine, a water pump, a television, and other household appliances. She credited net metering for allowing extra units generated in winter to offset summer electricity usage, keeping her bill near zero.

Net Metering and Cost Savings

“Thanks to Net Metering, the extra units generated during winter are now helping offset my summer electricity usage, keeping my bill almost zero,” she wrote. She emphasized that solar was not an expense but an investment that continues to save money monthly. The post has garnered reactions from users who praised the decision and expressed interest in installing similar systems.

Public Reactions to the Solar Investment

User @IM_Anshi21 commented: “What a great decision! In today's times, installing solar is truly the smartest investment—spend once, save for years. Reading your experience will surely inspire more people!” Another user, @NationSpeax4j, noted: “Not right now, but seeing these savings, I am now seriously considering getting a solar system installed.” @The_Architexxt shared his own experience: “Just installed mine 7 days ago....3kw panels but I opted for 5kw inverter....I am planning to upgrade panels after checking the usage for one year. I also have an EV and my bills are usually around 3-4k.”

Government Subsidies and Broader Interest

@SanjuGoyel observed that solar plates provide almost complete relief from electricity bills and that the government offers subsidies to raise awareness. @dhananjay_pai asked for experiences on government subsidies and recommended companies. @sarikayadav44 stated: “Solar panels are one of the few investments that can reduce expenses every single month while also increasing energy independence.” @Rahul_Rahi_ added: “Honestly this is the kind of investment that keeps paying you back every month. Makes a lot more sense than many people think.” @M7576_ concluded: “Solar is one of those investments that can keep paying you back for years. Lower electricity bills, cleaner energy, and greater energy independence make it a smart choice when the installation is done well. Wishing you many more years of savings and sunshine.”

Related Solar Stories in Nigeria

In a similar story, a Nigerian man installed a 6kVA solar inverter with lithium batteries and multiple panels to enjoy 24-hour electricity. After his landlord refused rooftop installation, he found an alternative method, bringing the total cost to about N2.99 million. Another Nigerian man who bought a 2.5kVA solar system for N2.2 million shared that he switched from a generator due to high fuel costs and constant repairs, expressing no regrets about investing in solar. Additionally, a man who purchased a 5kWh lithium solar system on instalment for N2.45 million reported no power outages in ten months and now enjoys free electricity from solar energy.
