Ogun's Sabo-Itanrin Road Reconstruction to Alleviate Traffic, Boost Economic Growth
The Ogun State government has reported significant progress in the ongoing reconstruction of the Sabo-Itanrin Road in Ijebu-Ode, with Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasizing that the project is a critical response to long-standing traffic congestion and infrastructure decline along this vital corridor.
Project Aims to Transform Mobility and Commerce
Governor Abiodun stated that the five-kilometre road upgrade is specifically designed to reduce travel time, enhance safety for commuters, and unlock commercial opportunities for communities that rely on this route for daily movement and trade. The reconstruction forms part of a broader initiative to modernize key transportation links across Ogun State, with work advancing steadily since construction commenced earlier this year.
Initial site preparation has been completed, and contractors are now focused on comprehensive earthworks and structural development to ensure durability and smoother traffic flow. This includes clearing topsoil, carrying out scarification, and implementing full earthworks along the alignment.
Drainage Systems to Enhance Road Longevity
Project engineers are concurrently building drainage systems on both sides of the road to manage runoff during the rainy season and protect the pavement from premature damage. Officials highlighted that these measures are intended to extend the road's lifespan and reduce future maintenance costs, thereby providing a sustainable infrastructure solution.
The Sabo-Itanrin Road serves as a strategic link within Ijebu-Ode, connecting residential areas near the Central Mosque to the Sagamu-Benin Expressway. Its current deteriorated condition has historically contributed to severe traffic bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours, hindering efficient movement and economic activities.

Upon completion, the reconstructed road is projected to:
