Expected Impact on Urban Mobility

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the rail line is expected to transform urban mobility in Lagos. At its initial stage, the project will have the capacity to transport up to 500,000 passengers daily, with plans to scale up to approximately one million passengers over time. The rail system will be capable of moving up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, significantly reducing travel time and alleviating congestion on the state’s roads.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

The governor described the project as part of the state government’s broader commitment to improving transportation infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for residents. He reaffirmed the state’s dedication to delivering a modern, efficient transit system that meets the mobility needs of Lagosians.

Acknowledgment of Federal Support

Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the continued support of the Federal Government under President Tinubu’s leadership. He expressed confidence that the project would be executed successfully and would serve as a catalyst for further development in Lagos State. The approval, he said, reflects a shared vision for a more connected and prosperous Nigeria.
