Segilola Resources Commissions Water Factory, Road in Osun

Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL) has commissioned key community development projects in Osun State, including a community-owned water factory and a road rehabilitation project, creating employment and driving economic growth. The projects were inaugurated during a visit by His Imperial Majesty, the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup (Ajimoko III), to SROL's operations in Odo-Ijesa.

Visit and Commissioning

The Deputy General Manager, Mr. Olusola Olusomidomo, received the monarch on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Segun Lawson. During the tour, His Imperial Majesty visited SROL's facilities, including the Segilola Gold Mine, the Site Pit, and the LRP Ifesowapo Fish Market. The visit also featured the commissioning of several Community Development Agreement (CDA) projects, such as the community-owned Ogere-Ekun Golden Water Factory in Iperindo, the rehabilitation of the Imogbara/Odo-Ijesha road corridor, the Olumolu of Imogbara Palace, and a block of classrooms at Imogbara Primary School.

Economic Impact and Employment

These initiatives have created direct employment opportunities for more than 80 community indigenes, reinforcing SROL's commitment to sustainable community development and inclusive economic growth. Currently, 27% of the workforce at the Segilola Gold Mine comes from host communities, while 25% of employees are from Osun State.

Ogere-Ekun Golden Water Factory

Located on Araromi Street in Iperindo, the Ogere-Ekun Golden Water Factory (OGW) is a community-owned venture developed under SROL's CDA commitments. Construction was completed in January 2026 after a four-month development period, with all regulatory approvals secured before the official commissioning in May 2026. The facility produces 3,000 litres of treated water per hour and is equipped with reverse osmosis and ozone treatment systems, PET bottle-blowing and sachet water production lines, shrink-wrapping systems, steam labelling equipment, bottle-capping systems, and a 60kVA backup generator. Supporting infrastructure includes a borehole water source, overhead storage tanks, sterilisation units, a production hall with raw-material and finished-goods stores, a loading bay, a generator house, and perimeter fencing. The enterprise is designed as a self-sustaining, revenue-generating venture to reduce dependence on external water supplies and create long-term economic value. It is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of community representatives, ensuring local ownership and accountability.

Road Rehabilitation Project

SROL also completed the rehabilitation of a 2.4-kilometre stretch of road connecting Imogbara and Odo-Ijesha. The project included grading, laterite filling compaction, and construction of rigid pavement roads using interlocking stones. To improve durability and year-round accessibility, double-sided drainage systems and culvert installations were incorporated to reduce waterlogging and prevent future road damage.

Stakeholder Comments

Speaking during the commissioning, Oba Haastrup commended SROL for providing employment opportunities to over 2,000 individuals across the South-West region, noting that 40% of the beneficiaries are from communities within Ijesaland. He underscored the importance of adhering to CDA agreements and implementing impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Madhurii Sarkar-Amoda, Community Development and Stakeholder Manager at SROL, highlighted the impact of the projects, stating that the water factory provides clean drinking water and economic prosperity, while the road rehabilitation improves access and safety. HRM Oba Isaiah Adedeji, the Tirimi of Iperindo, expressed deep appreciation on behalf of the community, emphasizing that the community-owned enterprise creates employment and long-term economic value.
