Taraba State Forges Strategic Alliance with World Bank to Automate Jalingo Abattoir
In a landmark move to modernize its livestock sector, Taraba State has entered into a strategic partnership with the World Bank through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project. This collaboration aims to upgrade the Jalingo Ultra-Modern Abattoir to full automation, setting a new standard for meat processing in Nigeria's North-East region.
Transforming the Abattoir into a Regional Hub
Governor Agbu Kefas has championed this initiative, which is poised to make the Jalingo facility the first fully automated abattoir in the North-East. According to state officials and Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, the National Coordinator of L-PRES, this project represents a significant milestone in enhancing the livestock and meat processing industry. The automation is designed to improve hygiene standards, expand processing capacity, and boost efficiency across the livestock value chain.
Key benefits expected from this upgrade include:
- Enhanced food safety and quality control measures.
- Creation of numerous employment opportunities for local residents.
- Attraction of private sector investment to the region.
- Positioning Taraba State as a leading hub for livestock production and meat processing.
Government and Stakeholder Commitment
During a recent inspection of the abattoir in Jalingo, Professor Nicolas Oliver Namessan, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, emphasized Governor Kefas's appeal to the L-PRES national leadership to ensure the project's success. He led the team alongside project consultants and Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, highlighting the state's dedication to this transformative endeavor.
Mr. Hananiah Albert, the State L-PRES Coordinator, assured that his team would work tirelessly in collaboration with the consultant, Abis Group, to deliver a fully remodeled and automated facility. Dr. Sanusi Abubakar noted that the modernization efforts under Governor Kefas would benefit not only Taraba State but the entire country, with World Bank approval already secured due to the governor's strong commitment.
Expert Assurance and Future Prospects
Ambassador Emmanuel N. Usman, Founder and Chairman of Abis Group, reassured stakeholders of the company's expertise in automating abattoirs nationwide. He promised a high-quality, fully automated slaughter facility upon completion, leveraging their proven track record. This project aligns with Taraba State's broader agenda of using international development partnerships to stimulate economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance livelihoods in the livestock sector.
The automation of the Jalingo abattoir is expected to drive sustainable development, reduce waste, and increase productivity, contributing to food security and economic resilience in the region.
