The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that some communities in Ogun State will experience a six-hour power outage today, Thursday, May 14, 2026. The outage is due to a planned maintenance exercise scheduled between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on the 40MVA 132/33KV power transformer at the McPherson Transmission Substation.
Affected Areas
According to TCN, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to its customers in the McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin axes during the maintenance period. The company disclosed this information via its official X handle.
Purpose of Maintenance
Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, explained that the maintenance exercise is essential for preventive routine checks on the transformer. This is to ensure the equipment continues to perform optimally and to prevent unexpected failures.
The statement read: “The maintenance exercise is to enable TCN crew to undertake preventive routine checks on the transformer to ensure continued optimal performance. Consequently, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to its customers in McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin during the period of the maintenance.”
