Nigeria's six largest audit firms generated a combined revenue of N175 billion in the 2025 financial year, with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) leading both in client count and revenue, according to a report by Nairametrics.
Revenue and Client Breakdown
The report, which analyzed data from the firms' financial statements, shows that PwC recorded the highest revenue among the Big 6, followed by KPMG. The firms collectively served over 1,200 clients across various sectors, with PwC alone accounting for more than 300 clients.
KPMG, while second in revenue, also maintained a strong client base, serving approximately 250 clients. The other firms—Deloitte, Ernst & Young (EY), Grant Thornton, and BDO—contributed to the remaining revenue and client numbers.
Market Dynamics and Growth
The report highlights that the audit market in Nigeria has seen significant growth, driven by increased regulatory requirements and corporate governance demands. The Big 6 firms have expanded their service offerings beyond traditional audit to include tax, advisory, and consulting services, which have become key revenue drivers.
According to the report, the growth in revenue reflects the firms' ability to adapt to changing market conditions and their investment in technology and talent. The firms have also increased their focus on sectors such as financial services, oil and gas, and telecommunications, which have high demand for audit and assurance services.
Implications for the Industry
The concentration of revenue among the Big 6 firms has implications for competition and market entry. Smaller audit firms may find it challenging to compete with the scale and resources of the Big 6, which could impact the diversity of the audit market.
Regulators and industry stakeholders are likely to monitor these trends to ensure that the market remains competitive and that audit quality is maintained. The report suggests that the Big 6 firms will continue to dominate the market, but there is potential for increased collaboration with mid-tier firms to address capacity constraints.
The findings underscore the importance of the audit profession in Nigeria's economic landscape, as these firms play a critical role in ensuring financial transparency and accountability. As the market evolves, the Big 6 are expected to continue investing in innovation and talent development to sustain their growth.
