Transafam Power Launches Yearly Elderly Wellness Day in Rivers Community
Transafam Unveils Health Programme for Host Community Elders

In a significant move to bolster community welfare, Transafam Power Limited has inaugurated a dedicated annual health and wellness programme for senior citizens in its host community of Okoloma-Afam, Oyigbo Local Government Area, Rivers State.

A Commitment to Community Care

The inaugural Elderly Wellness Day was held on 2 December 2025 in Okoloma-Afam, where the company served more than thirty elderly residents. The beneficiaries included twenty-four women and six men, who received comprehensive support. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Vincent Ozoude, stated that the event reflects the company's core belief that true development must transcend electricity provision to tangibly improve human lives.

Ozoude emphasised that caring for the elders who laid the community's foundation is both a privilege and a serious responsibility for the company. He reaffirmed that Transafam Power, which alongside Transcorp Power Plc meets nearly one-fifth of Nigeria's electricity demand, will continue to strengthen community-focused initiatives with lasting social impact.

Comprehensive Health Outreach and Support

The programme featured an interactive health education session conducted by specialist doctors from Avon Medical Practice. They educated participants on critical topics for healthy ageing, including:

  • Hypertension management
  • Diabetes prevention
  • General preventive care strategies

Following the seminar, attendees underwent free vital signs checks, one-on-one physician consultations, and necessary laboratory tests. Essential medications were dispensed on the spot. Each participant also received a substantial support package, which included:

  • Digital blood pressure monitors for ongoing health tracking
  • A three-month supply of multivitamins
  • A package containing food items, toiletries, bedding, and other household essentials

Institutionalising Impact for the Future

The initiative, which falls under Transafam's healthcare-focused Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillar, was met with enthusiastic praise from community leaders and beneficiaries. They described the programme as impactful, compassionate, and meticulously organised.

Transafam Power has pledged to institutionalise the Elderly Wellness Day as a yearly flagship event. The company also revealed plans to expand its reach in the areas of health, education, and economic empowerment across all its host communities. This wellness day aligns with the company's broader portfolio of community development programmes, which includes waste management support, regular medical consultations, and creating youth job opportunities.
