Dangote Refinery Announces Further Diesel Price Reduction to N880 Per Litre

In a significant development for Nigeria's energy sector, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has implemented another price reduction for its refined products. The company has lowered the gantry price of Automotive Gas Oil, commonly known as diesel, to N880 per litre. This adjustment represents a decrease of N30 from the previous rate of N910 per litre and took effect on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Strategic Move to Support Industrialization

This price cut marks the refinery's first diesel price reduction since December 4, 2025, and forms part of Dangote Refinery's broader strategy to bolster Nigeria's industrial growth. Diesel serves as a critical energy source for numerous sectors, including manufacturing facilities, logistics operations, and small businesses across the country.

The reduction in gantry prices provides industrial operators with increased flexibility to manage production expenses, according to a Lagos-based energy analyst who spoke on condition of anonymity. Over time, this development could help moderate prices of consumer goods, as energy costs represent one of the largest components in Nigeria's manufacturing sector.

Competitive Market Positioning

The price adjustment comes amid intensifying competition within Lagos's private depot market. Several competing depots, including Duport, Ibachem, and Integrated depots, have reduced their AGO prices to N902 per litre. This rate was already N8 below Dangote's previous ex-depot price of N910 per litre, making Dangote's new N880 price particularly competitive.

With this latest reduction, Dangote Refinery now sells diesel at a price lower than importers, strengthening the competitiveness of locally refined petroleum products in the Nigerian market.

Recent Petrol Price Adjustment

This diesel price reduction follows closely on the heels of another significant announcement from the refinery. Recently, Dangote Refinery communicated to marketers that it has reduced the price of Premium Motor Spirit by N25 per litre, lowering its ex-depot rate from N799 to N774 per litre.

The refinery confirmed that this new petrol rate takes immediate effect nationwide. This adjustment further enhances the competitive position of locally refined products, as the current landing price of imported PMS from Lome stands at approximately N793 per litre, compared to Dangote Refinery's ex-depot price of N774 per litre.

Quality Assurance and Market Integrity

In related developments, Dangote Refinery has addressed circulating claims regarding petrol imports. The company stated it has identified individuals spreading allegations that it imported petrol into Nigeria, describing these claims as misleading and intended to undermine the nation's refining objectives.

The refinery emphasized that the only petrol it supplies to the Nigerian market is Euro 5-compliant Premium Motor Spirit, which undergoes rigorous quality testing before distribution. The company has indicated it will reveal the identities and motives of those behind the allegations at the appropriate time and pursue legal action against them.

These consecutive price reductions by Dangote Refinery represent a positive development for Nigeria's energy landscape, potentially easing operational costs for businesses across multiple sectors while promoting the competitiveness of locally refined petroleum products.
