Historic 2Africa Subsea Cable System Goes Live
In a groundbreaking development for global connectivity, Meta and its consortium of telecommunications partners have officially completed and activated the core 2Africa Subsea Cable system. This monumental achievement, announced on 21 November 2025, establishes what is currently the world's longest open-access subsea cable system, spanning three continents and connecting over 33 countries.

The 2Africa system represents a historic first as the initial cable to connect East and West Africa within a single, continuous network. This infrastructure masterpiece links Africa with the Middle East, South Asia, and Europe, creating digital pathways that will serve approximately three billion people, including Africa's entire population of 1.4 billion.
Architected and led by Meta in collaboration with key partners including Bayobab (MTN Group), Orange, center3, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Group, and WIOCC, this project brings more subsea capacity than all of Africa's existing subsea cables combined.
