MTN Gifts N2 Million to Newlyweds in Lagos as Part of Festive 'Y'ellotide Weddings'
MTN Surprises Lagos Couples with N2m Wedding Gifts

In a heartwarming festive surprise, MTN Nigeria has brought unexpected financial joy to newlywed couples in Lagos. The telecom giant expanded its seasonal Y'ello Tide campaign by launching the Y'ellotide Weddings initiative, directly rewarding couples with substantial support as they start their married lives.

The Surprise Unfolds in Lagos Ceremonies

On Saturday, 7 December 2025, the MTN team made a memorable appearance at the wedding of Chris Nelson Agbude and Florence Okon Etim in the Lawanson area of Surulere, Lagos. The couple was left in a state of pleasant shock when presented with a generous cash gift of N2 million. This formed part of the special "Yellow Wedding" surprise package designed to make their day unforgettable.

The joy was not confined to Surulere. On that same day, in the Sogunle area of Lagos, another couple, Paul and Loveth Ejeh, experienced the same thrilling surprise, receiving an identical N2 million gift from the visiting MTN team. For both couples, the gesture was described as a tremendous blessing at the very start of their journey together.

MTN's Vision for Connection and Unforgettable Experiences

Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Nigeria, explained the thought behind the initiative. She stated that the Y'ellotide Wedding drive is MTN's unique method of connecting with Nigerians during the festive season and adding real value to significant life milestones.

"Unlike conventional wedding sponsorships, this initiative is all about a surprise element, reinforcing MTN's campaign message of bringing the vibe and unforgettable experience from now till the end of December," Ikenna-Emeka said.

She emphasized that the idea is deeply rooted in the company's commitment to fostering human connections. "The Y'ellotide season is about connecting people to happiness, to opportunities, and to progress. We want to be the surprise that truly makes their day unforgettable, and we will be honoured to be a part of the rest of their lives," she added.

More Surprises Planned Across Nigeria

Ikenna-Emeka further disclosed an ambitious plan for the initiative. MTN teams are set to visit a total of 25 wedding ceremonies across the country before the end of the year. Each selected couple will be a beneficiary of the N2 million financial gift as part of this festive outreach program.

For Chris and Florence, the surprise brought both excitement and practical relief. Chris revealed he had seen the campaign promo and even suggested to his then-fiancée that they try their luck. However, as the wedding day neared without any communication from MTN, he assumed they were not chosen.

"I just told my wife to give it a trial, but we forgot about it while preparing for the wedding. Seeing MTN show up today was a big shock. We are very grateful because the money will help us start our home," Chris recounted.

Florence, overflowing with happiness, praised the company for the thoughtful initiative and the special effort made to mark their day as truly remarkable.

With more wedding visits scheduled throughout December, MTN aims to spread festive cheer, offer tangible support, and create lasting, positive memories for numerous couples embarking on their new lives together in Nigeria.
