Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has renewed his criticism of mobile network operators in Nigeria, accusing the 'telecom cartel' of exploiting consumers. In a recent post on X, Sowore described the situation as 'bleeding Nigerians dry,' following earlier demands for the occupation of MTN Nigeria over service failures.
Sowore's Allegations Against Telecom Companies
On 23 April 2026, Sowore called on Nigerians to occupy MTN, citing unexplained data loss and frequent dropped calls. He attached a Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) chart showing MTN controls 51.8% of 182 million subscribers, ahead of Airtel (34.1%), Glo (12.3%), and 9mobile (1.8%). 'MTN is totally and irreversibly irresponsible,' he wrote.
In his latest post, Sowore expanded his criticism to include all major operators. 'The company now known as Most Terrible Network (MTN) sits at the top of this exploitation pyramid, stealing, robbing, and extorting millions daily,' he stated. He accused Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile of complicity, citing dropped calls, vanishing data, and phantom charges.
Call for Action and Digital Rights
Sowore also blamed regulatory agencies for failing to enforce consequences. 'This is not poor service; it is organized exploitation,' he declared, urging Nigerians to reclaim their digital rights through the #OCCUPYMTN movement. His posts have sparked widespread debate on social media about telecom service quality in Nigeria.
