How Tinubu's Concrete Road Averted Air Disaster in Delta State
Tinubu's Concrete Road Prevents Air Disaster in Delta

The concrete road construction initiative by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration across Nigeria proved to be a lifesaver when an aircraft made an emergency landing on one such road in Delta state on Wednesday, potentially averting a major crash.

Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, confirmed that the concrete pavement provided the troubled aircraft with a stable surface to land and subsequently take off safely. According to a statement by Umahi's Media Adviser, Francis Nwaze, the Nigerian aircraft encountered difficulties while attempting to land at Asaba Airport in Delta State.

"Unable to complete its landing at the airport, the aircraft eventually landed on a concrete road near Ogwashi-Uku. What could have ended in tragedy is now a story of survival. All crew members on board escaped without injury," Nwaze said.

He noted that as aviation authorities investigate the incident, many Nigerians have pointed out an important lesson: good infrastructure can make a critical difference in emergencies. The road on which the aircraft landed provided a stable surface during a crucial moment.

"While roads are primarily built for vehicles, this incident underscores the importance of investing in quality and durable infrastructure. It demonstrates how well-constructed roads can deliver value beyond their intended purpose and, in unexpected situations, contribute to safety and help avert disaster," Nwaze added.

He emphasized that this is one of the reasons the Federal Government under President Tinubu has continued to promote the use of concrete pavement on major roads across the country. Concrete roads are designed to be stronger, more durable, and able to withstand heavy pressure over a long period.

"In almost every part of Nigeria, several road projects are being constructed or reconstructed using concrete technology under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works led by Senator Engr. David Umahi. The Asaba incident serves as a reminder that infrastructure is not just about transportation. Well-built roads support economic growth, improve connectivity, enhance safety, and in rare situations like this, can help prevent a bad situation from becoming a disaster," Nwaze concluded.
