His Royal Majesty, King Dr. Appolus Chu, OFR, the paramount ruler of Eleme Kingdom, has marked a significant milestone in his reign by calling for stronger partnerships between Nigeria's traditional institutions and modern government structures.
A Celebration of Two Decades of Service
The revered monarch, who holds the titles Oneh-eh Nchia X, Egbere EmereOkori Eleme, and the Highest Yam Title Holder (Achu-Ette) of Eleme Kingdom, recently celebrated 20 years of dedicated leadership. The event served not just as an anniversary but as a platform to reiterate the indispensable role of traditional rulers in national development.
King Chu emphasized that institutions rooted in native culture and custom are vital for maintaining social order. He identified them as crucial platforms for conflict resolution, fostering social cohesion, and driving development from the grassroots level.
The Imperative for Collaborative Governance
The monarch's central message focused on the necessity of synergy. He stressed that collaboration between traditional leadership and modern governance structures is non-negotiable for achieving long-term progress in communities.
According to the king, when monarchs unite and work hand-in-hand with government agencies, the results are overwhelmingly positive for their people and the wider region. This partnership, he believes, is the bedrock for sustainable peace and stability.
A Gathering of Royalty and Dignitaries
The anniversary celebration drew a prestigious gathering, underscoring the respect King Chu commands. The event was attended by prominent traditional rulers, dignitaries, and community leaders from across the region.
Among the distinguished guests was His Royal Majesty King Air Commodore T.E.O. Ogube, the Amayanabo and Supreme Monarch of Kirike Kingdom. The assembly of leaders collectively acknowledged King Chu's tireless two-decade effort to promote unity, cultural preservation, and socio-economic advancement for the Eleme people.
Reflecting on his journey, King Dr. Appolus Chu stated, "Twenty years of leadership is a tribute to the power of vision, dedication, and the unwavering support of our people. As we celebrate this milestone, I’m reminded that traditional leadership is not just about titles, but about service, wisdom, and the welfare of our communities. I’m grateful to my people for their trust and support."
The celebration, held on 27 December 2025, stands as a testament to a legacy built on service and a clear vision for a future where traditional wisdom and modern governance walk together for the good of all.
