Covenant University Computer Engineering Graduate Launches Tech Startup
A young Nigerian man, David Mac-Asore, has shared an inspiring career journey that led him to co-found a technology company just one year after graduating from Covenant University. The computer engineering graduate detailed his path from university to entrepreneurship in a comprehensive LinkedIn post, highlighting the pivotal role of mentorship and practical experience in the tech industry.
From Graduation to Industry Navigation
Mac-Asore graduated from Covenant University with a degree in Computer Engineering over a year ago. Like many new graduates passionate about software engineering, he possessed curiosity and drive but faced uncertainty in translating academic knowledge into real-world opportunities. He emphasized the challenging transition from university to the professional tech landscape, where multiple paths exist but clear guidance can be scarce.
Mentorship played a crucial role in his early career development. He received guidance from Gbubemi Akperi, whose support helped him navigate internship preparations, interview techniques, and technical skill positioning. This mentorship provided the confidence needed to advance in the competitive technology sector.
Hands-On Experience in Fintech
Mac-Asore secured an internship as a Backend Developer at Rigo Inc., formerly known as NucleusIS Africa. This position offered hands-on experience in building backend systems within the fintech industry and collaborating with engineering teams. His performance led to a full-time role, marking a significant step in his professional growth.
Most recently, he worked at Digicore, where he was responsible for building and maintaining banking systems in production. His work involved integration with major financial institutions including United Bank for Africa, TAJBank Ltd., and LAPO Microfinance. Operating at this scale, where code directly impacts real financial transactions, provided demanding yet rewarding learning experiences that he described as unparalleled in a live banking environment.
Entrepreneurial Venture: Reedapt Inc.
Alongside his employment, Mac-Asore co-founded Reedapt Inc., a platform focused on enabling contextually accurate multilingual communication. The company aims to ensure messages reach global audiences exactly as intended, addressing linguistic and cultural nuances in digital communication.
Reflecting on his journey, Mac-Asore expressed gratitude for the mentors who guided his early steps and the environments that pushed his growth. He underscored the significant difference mentorship can make for individuals starting out in technology, acknowledging that while there is still much to learn, he remains excited about future challenges and solution-building.
His story serves as an inspiration to recent graduates, demonstrating how academic foundation, mentorship, and industry experience can converge to foster entrepreneurial success within a remarkably short timeframe after university completion.
