University of Ibadan Engineering Student Details Academic Challenges and Confidence Erosion
A student from the University of Ibadan, UI, has ignited widespread conversations on social media by candidly discussing how his pursuit of an engineering degree has significantly impacted his academic self-assurance. The undergraduate, identified as @jociefer on X, shared his personal journey in response to a post by another user, @mejitwo, who humorously noted that university life can be a humbling experience academically.
From High Achiever to Academic Doubts: A Student's Journey
The UI student, who is studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering, first gained viral attention when he disclosed a notable decline in his Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA, from an impressive 4.2 to 3.33. In his recent post, he elaborated on how this academic shift has affected him psychologically. He explained that while he never considered himself highly academically confident since primary school, the situation worsened upon entering university. Specifically, he began failing tests despite dedicating considerable effort to studying, which gradually diminished what little confidence he had left.
In his own words, he wrote: “This engineering degree I'm pursuing has lowkey had the same effect on me. I've never really been academically confident per se since I left primary school, but once I entered uni and started seeing myself fail tests that I read for… the small confidence I had started to dry up.” This honest admission has resonated with many students facing similar pressures in demanding academic programmes.
Online Reactions and Shared Experiences from Peers
The post sparked a flood of reactions from other students, who shared their own stories of academic struggles and encouragement. @mejitwo responded with support, saying: “It's a humbling experience. But we keep pushing regardless.” Others, like @Bami_to_ur_feed, offered motivational advice, noting that many successful engineers have faced similar challenges and emphasizing the importance of perseverance and curiosity in the field.
