Social critic Scott Iguma has sparked a conversation by comparing the state of infrastructure in a Chinese university with that of Imo State University in Nigeria. In a recent post, he shared two videos highlighting the stark contrast between the facilities available to students in both institutions.
Pristine Infrastructure in Chinese University
In the first video, Iguma showcased the pristine and up-to-date infrastructure within the premises of a university in China. The footage revealed modern buildings, well-maintained roads, and state-of-the-art equipment, reflecting a conducive learning environment.
Deplorable Conditions in Imo State University
Following that, he shared a video depicting the deplorable state of infrastructure at Imo State University. The video showed dilapidated buildings, poor road networks, and inadequate facilities. Iguma expressed concern over how students in the Nigerian institution are expected to compete favorably with their counterparts when they are made to study in such poor conditions.
Call for Action
He questioned the ability of students to thrive academically and professionally when their learning environment lacks basic amenities. The comparison has reignited debates about the need for improved funding and maintenance of educational infrastructure in Nigeria.
