Nigerian Teacher Reacts to N15,000 Monthly Salary Offer

Teacher Offered N15,000 Monthly to Teach Junior Secondary Mathematics

An experienced Nigerian teacher has sparked widespread reactions after revealing the details of a phone conversation in which a woman offered him N15,000 per month to teach mathematics to JSS1, JSS2, and JSS3 students. The teacher, identified on TikTok as @foc_embrace001, expressed disbelief at the offer, questioning whether people view teachers as beggars.

The teacher explained that he initially told the woman he was not keen on teaching junior secondary classes but agreed to hear her offer. After a lengthy explanation about the school being new and having fewer than 30 students, the woman insisted he name his price. He declined and asked her to make an offer, leading to the N15,000 figure.

Teacher's Reaction and Online Discussion

Upon hearing the amount, the teacher asked, 'Is that per hour?' The woman clarified it was per month, prompting him to exclaim, 'For 2026???' In his post, he wrote: 'Wait ooo... is it that people see teachers as beggars?'

The post quickly attracted comments from social media users. @kween_kiki lamented: 'Olodoism has just started. Morals will keep declining future uncertain cos a nation that doesn't value transporters of knowledge will eventually collapse.' @Michael26071073 criticized private school owners, saying: 'Private school owners are the most greediest set of investors i have come across with. Thinking they are doing teachers a favor. One said she'll pay 25k for economics, commerce and CRS. You can imagine.'

Broader Concerns About Teacher Salaries in Nigeria

@dhareymu added: '15k bawo ?? Be like she no know who FOC be. But 15k to any teacher, even if na only 1 class person dey teach in 2026 should be a crime... 15k wey no buy anything meaningful again.' @lagbaja00 noted the pattern of lowballing: 'And that lowballing always starts with story "the school just started" and many other like that.' @CgsMusicclub reflected: 'Interesting. Education is not really that valued or rated by an average Nigerian to begin with. We just have to search within & start telling ourselves the truth. We are the very problem of what we complain today about education in general. What a shame.'

This incident is not isolated. Legit.ng previously reported that an educationist shared the alleged salary of an Enugu smart school teacher with 12 years of experience, earning N93,423 per month, sparking outrage. Another report highlighted a teacher earning N60,000 monthly, below the government-approved minimum wage, while saving for a master's degree.
