Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has confirmed the receipt of ₦809,325,700 from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), covering tuition loans for 4,649 students in the 2025/2026 academic session. This disbursement represents the second batch of payments under the scheme, identified as IAUEPHSL11, and forms part of the Federal Government's broader initiative to expand access to higher education through structured student financing.
University Applauds NELFUND's Commitment
In a statement issued by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechukwu Onuchuku, the university described the intervention as significant relief for students facing financial constraints. He noted that the support has already begun to improve student morale, enabling beneficiaries to focus more fully on their academic work without the burden of tuition-related pressures.
"The support provided by NELFUND is a clear demonstration of commitment to advancing education and empowering the next generation of Nigerian leaders," the statement read.
Transparency and Accountability Measures
The institution confirmed that it has formally acknowledged receipt of the funds and documented the disbursement process, including public disclosure through a newspaper publication. According to the university, this step was taken to reinforce transparency and accountability in the management of student fees under the loan scheme.
NELFUND's Expanding Role
NELFUND, established to provide accessible financing for tertiary education, has been scaling up its disbursement operations across institutions nationwide, with a focus on reducing financial barriers to higher education. The IAUE disbursement adds to a growing list of beneficiary institutions, as authorities continue to position student loans as a key pillar of Nigeria's education funding framework.
Official Commendation Letter
In a letter addressed to NELFUND, Professor Onuchuku expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the university's management, staff, and students. He highlighted the fund's dedication, professionalism, and passion for fostering educational development, which have been confirmed through the tested and trusted process.
"The impact of this initiative is already evident in the improved morale and motivation of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education students, who now have the opportunity to concentrate fully on their studies without the weight of financial constraints," he wrote.
The letter also included a newspaper publication showing the disbursement and refund as evidence of transparency in managing the fees process.
