Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been formally presented with the prestigious 2025 Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS). The honour recognises his administration's sweeping and impactful reforms across multiple sectors of the state.
Recognition for Multi-Sectoral Achievements
The award was conferred on Governor Yusuf specifically for documented achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, urban renewal, infrastructure, and social welfare. The ceremony, held on 17 December 2025, saw the Governor receive the plaque from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The event was presided over by the Chairman of the NEAPS Board of Trustees, retired Justice Mary Odili. The award scheme is an initiative of Best Media Relations, implemented in partnership with the Office of the SGF.
Transformative Projects Across Kano
Under Governor Yusuf's leadership, Kano has witnessed significant strides. In the education sector, his government embarked on large-scale rehabilitation of schools, recruited teachers en masse, and increased funding for public institutions.
The health sector saw a revamp of primary healthcare centres, upgrades to existing hospitals, and a marked expansion in access to quality medical services for residents across the state.
His administration also revitalised agriculture through robust farmer-support programmes, ensuring the timely distribution of inputs and strengthening extension services to boost productivity.
Concurrently, Kano is undergoing an aggressive urban renewal drive, aimed at restoring the ancient city's status as a modern, organised, and liveable metropolis.
A Celebration of Public Service Excellence
Governor Abba Yusuf was not alone in being honoured. He received the award alongside fellow governors from Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, Enugu, and Akwa Ibom States.
The event also celebrated other top public servants and agency heads. The distinguished list of awardees included:

In his response, Governor Yusuf dedicated the award to the resilient people of Kano State. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to people-centred governance and the pursuit of sustainable development for the benefit of all citizens.
