Former Big Brother Naija housemate Boma Akpore has revealed the staggering financial investment he made to participate in the popular reality show, along with the disappointing aftermath that left him frustrated and angry.
The Heavy Financial Burden
In a recent interview with With Chude, Akpore explained that many viewers assumed his journey to the Big Brother house was smooth and effortless. However, the reality was quite different. He disclosed spending over ₦2.1 million even before being selected as a contestant.
While some auditioning participants only needed to cover transportation costs, Akpore's situation required much more substantial investment. He had to take a flight to attend auditions, book a hotel room for an entire month, and purchase brand-new clothing specifically for a show he wasn't even guaranteed to enter.
The hotel accommodation alone cost approximately ₦70,000 per day at that time, contributing significantly to his pre-show expenses that ultimately exceeded two million naira.
Post-Show Backlash and Cancelled Deals
The financial challenges didn't end when Akpore exited the Big Brother house. He described how online backlash created additional obstacles that affected his potential earnings after the show.
Several brand endorsement deals fell through due to controversies that emerged following his television appearance. According to Akpore, brands suddenly backed out of agreements for things he insists he never actually did.
He revealed that some endorsements came very close to materializing, but just before payment would be processed, something negative would surface online, causing the deals to collapse. This pattern repeated multiple times, leaving him without the financial returns he had anticipated from his reality television fame.
Frustration Over Unverified Narratives
Akpore expressed particular frustration about being judged based on what he describes as unsubstantiated claims. He stated that people would accuse him of actions they never actually witnessed, and these allegations spread rapidly online.
What angered him most was that the same individuals who frequently complain about Nigeria's systemic problems were contributing to similar issues by spreading unverified information. He felt unfairly judged by narratives that lacked evidence, especially after taking significant financial risks using his own money.
The former housemate emphasized that he had invested substantial personal funds, taken big career risks, and still ended up facing criticism based on what he maintains were false premises. The entire experience left him understandably upset about the gap between public perception and his actual experience.
