Former Big Brother Naija reality star Queen Mercy Atang has shared a harrowing story of how her family narrowly avoided a tragic accident in their home. The incident involved the sudden collapse of the decorative Plaster of Paris (POP) ceiling in her sitting room.
A Night of Divine Timing and Narrow Escape
Queen Mercy detailed the event in an Instagram post on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. She revealed she had returned home around 4 a.m. after an all-night work session related to a Guinness World Record project and picking up a friend from the airport.
Upon her arrival, her younger sister and nanny were still awake, engaged in late-night sewing. The reality star, who recently separated from her husband, had initially suggested the workers sleep in the sitting room and leave in the morning. However, the nanny decided to leave by 6 a.m.
The critical moment came at approximately 7:58 a.m. With her sister and another staff member still awake and sewing in the room, the entire POP ceiling came crashing down. "They both literally had to run for their lives," Queen Mercy wrote, emphasizing that they usually slept in that same space after working through the night.
Second Collapse in Weeks Raises Safety Concerns
In a shocking revelation, Queen Mercy disclosed that this was the second such incident in her home within a matter of weeks. Prior to the sitting room collapse, the POP ceiling in her garage had also fallen. These back-to-back accidents have left her deeply concerned about the structural safety of her residence.
She described being asleep when her mother rushed in to alert her. "The first thing I asked was, ‘Mommy, where is my sister and my nanny?’" Queen Mercy recounted. "When she said they were upstairs, my blood pressure came down immediately."
The television personality attributed the narrow escape to divine intervention, stating, "God said not this family." She expressed profound gratitude that no one was physically harmed in what could have been a fatal disaster.
