Spanish singing icon Julio Iglesias has publicly and forcefully rejected shocking allegations of s£xual ass@ult and labour violations made by two of his former domestic workers. The 82-year-old artist took to social media to declare the accusations as completely false.
Formal Complaint and Court Proceedings
The serious allegations were formally presented to the Spanish High Court's prosecutor's office on January 5, 2026. The complaint was filed by the rights organisation Women's Link Worldwide, acting on behalf of two women using the pseudonyms Rebeca and Laura.
The case stems from a three-year investigation conducted by US broadcaster Univision and Spanish outlet elDiario.es. The prosecutor's office has confirmed it has opened preliminary proceedings, though details remain scarce due to court secrecy rules.
Nature of the Allegations
The criminal complaint includes charges of human trafficking for forced labour and servitude, s£xual abuse, and violations of workers' rights. According to Women's Link Worldwide, the complainants are young Latin American women who were in vulnerable economic and social situations and heavily dependent on their wages.
The reports indicate the two women worked at Iglesias's residences in the Caribbean, specifically in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, for a period of ten months in 2021.
Iglesias's Emphatic Denial
In a signed statement posted on his Instagram profile late on Thursday, January 16, 2026, the legendary singer issued a categorical denial. "I deny having abused, coerced or disrespected any woman. These accusations are completely false and cause me great sadness," Iglesias stated.
One of the world's best-selling Latin music artists, with over 300 million records sold in 14 languages, Iglesias added that he has found "great comfort" in the messages of support he has received from the public following the news.
The case continues to develop as the Spanish High Court proceeds with its preliminary investigation into the serious claims made against the international music star.
