A Nigerian woman, Shikemi, has gone viral on TikTok after recounting how she was repeatedly mistaken for the bride at a friend's court wedding in Lagos. In a storytime video, Shikemi explained that she agreed to accompany a male friend to help him secure an early registration number at the courthouse before his actual bride arrived.
White Jumpsuit Sparks Confusion
Having nothing bridal in her wardrobe, Shikemi wore a fitted white jumpsuit originally sewn for a department dinner and awards event. She arrived at the courthouse to find that the real bride's makeup had finished early, making the stand-in arrangement unnecessary. However, Shikemi was already there, dressed in white.
Court staff welcomed her as the bride, flower vendors pushed bouquets in her direction, and wedding guests congratulated her. Each correction deepened the confusion, and the real bride's friends responded with visible side-eyes throughout the event.
