Actress reveals cancer has spread to bones
Nollywood actress Cynthia Anijekwu has publicly appealed for financial assistance after revealing that her cancer has spread to her bones, requiring costly ongoing treatment. In a video that began circulating on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the actress disclosed that her monthly medical expenses have risen to approximately ₦600,000.
Second battle with cancer
Anijekwu first faced cancer in 2023, undergoing surgery and a full course of chemotherapy. The initial treatment appeared successful, but the disease later recurred and advanced. Medical tests confirmed that the cancer had metastasized to her bones, necessitating more intensive care, including radiation therapy and additional surgery.
Financial burden and plea for help
The actress stated that the escalating costs have overwhelmed her family's resources, prompting her to seek help from the public. "I've been in and out of the hospital. The doctor recently told me it has reached my bones, and the treatment is now much more expensive," she said in the video. She described her condition, noting that both breasts have been affected and her hands are visibly swollen.
Anijekwu appealed directly for support: "I need to live. I need to survive. Your one naira, your two naira can add up to something reasonable for me to get the proper treatment. I'm begging you, please help me."
Understanding bone metastasis
When cancer spreads to the bones, a condition known as bone metastasis, it indicates an advanced stage of the disease. Treatment typically combines radiation, surgery, and systemic therapy, leading to significantly higher costs as care becomes more complex and ongoing.
Industry and public response
Anijekwu has worked in Nollywood across both English and Igbo-language productions. Her video has drawn widespread sympathy online, with many calling on individuals and entertainment industry colleagues to provide assistance.
