Nigerian comedian Anita Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin, has formally resolved a dispute with Delta State stakeholders over a comedy event that had sparked days of public controversy. The peace agreement was announced on Thursday through a joint statement published on the comedian's Instagram page.
The joint statement was signed by Real Warri Pikin, representatives of the Wado City Advocacy Group, Collins Eselemo, Chief Godfrey Ishegbe, and a representative of the Delta State Government. The document marked the end of a public disagreement that had drawn significant attention across social media platforms.
Root of the Disagreement Over Event Location
The controversy began when the proposed comedy show was advertised as a Warri event, despite being scheduled to take place in Effurun, which is located in the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. The Wado City Advocacy Group objected to this branding, demanding that Effurun be properly identified as the host location.
The dispute escalated to the point where the original September 20 show, planned for the Monarchy Event Centre on the Effurun-Sapele Road, was cancelled. Real Warri Pikin had earlier described the situation as troubling, noting that the backlash came alongside threats and reflected deeper ethnic tensions in the region.
Reconciliation Meeting Yields Mutual Commitments
In the joint statement, all parties acknowledged that the reconciliation meeting provided a platform for open dialogue. The statement read: "The meeting provided an opportunity for everyone involved to speak openly, clarify concerns and address the matters that had led to the recent disagreement."
Following extensive discussions, the parties agreed to move forward collaboratively. The statement added: "After extensive discussions, all parties agreed to put the matter behind them and work together in the interest of peace and the successful hosting of the event."
A key outcome of the meeting was a mutual commitment to cease all public exchanges, particularly on social media. The parties declared there would be "no further public confrontation, exchange of accusations or hostile communication concerning the matter, whether on social media or through any other platform."
Public Apology and Path Forward
All parties also issued a formal apology to the public, acknowledging that the dispute had unsettled residents, fans, and observers. The statement said: "We therefore jointly extend our sincere apologies to anyone who may have been inconvenienced, disappointed or affected by the manner in which the disagreement became public."
The resolution comes after a period of heightened tension, with the comedian previously sharing her concerns about the threats she faced. The rescheduled event is now expected to proceed with the cooperation of all involved parties, marking a conclusive end to the public confrontation.
