Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has launched a scathing critique against Arise TV personality Rufai Oseni, targeting what he describes as Oseni's inappropriate conduct towards guests during live broadcasts. In a video that surfaced online on March 4, Edochie expressed strong disapproval of Oseni's on-air demeanor, labeling him as profoundly disrespectful and unprofessional.
Edochie's Accusations and Past Incidents
In his impassioned statement, Edochie referenced a previous incident where Oseni was reportedly caught driving against traffic and using the BRT lane illegally in Lagos. According to Edochie, instead of apologizing when confronted by officials, Oseni allegedly responded with arrogance, shouting, "Do you know who I am? I am going to call the governor of Lagos state." This behavior, Edochie argued, reflects a pattern of disrespect that extends to Oseni's television interactions.
Edochie further accused Oseni of insulting guests on national TV under the guise of journalism, stating, "Is it not the same Rufai Oseni that is insulting people on national TV all in the name of doing journalism? My friend, shut up and sit down!" He emphasized that Oseni lacks the moral authority to engage in discussions with individuals of integrity, calling his on-air comments "nonsense" and criticizing his disregard for both guests and the country's laws.
Critique of Journalistic Standards
The actor questioned Oseni's journalistic training, asserting that respect for guests should be a fundamental principle. "Who taught you journalism? The first thing they should have taught you is to respect your guest," Edochie remarked. He outlined what he believes are proper protocols: if a guest expresses discomfort, the host should apologize, ensure the guest feels comfortable, and then proceed with questions. Edochie condemned Oseni's alleged approach of telling guests they are free to leave the studio if uncomfortable, deeming it unacceptable and unprofessional.
Edochie concluded by directly addressing Oseni, saying, "You are not better than anybody out there. You are a very disrespectful person and you should go and learn journalism. You are insulting people on national TV. The video is there on the internet." This call for accountability highlights Edochie's demand for higher standards in media conduct.
