Popular Nigerian content creator Alaga Lamba is facing widespread condemnation from Muslim organizations and the public after posting a controversial video that mocked the niqab, the traditional veil worn by Muslim women.
Viral Video Sparks Religious Outrage
The skit maker, known by his stage name Alaga Lamba, published content that portrayed the Muslim women's veil as an instrument of promiscuity and adultery. The video quickly went viral across social media platforms, drawing immediate backlash from the Muslim community who viewed it as a direct attack on their religious values.
The controversial video was published on November 18, 2025, and has since been taken down following the widespread criticism. However, the damage had already been done, with Muslim groups expressing deep offense at what they termed a religious assault on their sacred symbols.
Muslim Organizations Issue Strong Condemnation
Ta'awunu Human Rights Initiative (THURIST) was among the first organizations to respond to the offensive content. The Muslim human rights group released an official statement expressing their displeasure with the viral video.
Barrister Sulymon TADESE, the Director General of THURIST, stated that the organization found the development highly offensive and unacceptable. He recalled that THURIST had previously issued warnings to skit makers about crossing red lines when it comes to religious symbols, particularly the Muslim women's veil.
Barrister Sulymon emphasized that the niqob remains a red line for every content creator and skit maker and warned that the organization would pursue all lawful means to ensure accountability for anyone violating this sanctity.
MURIC Joins Criticism and Demands Public Apology
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) also condemned Alaga Lamba's video content, describing it as irresponsible behavior that demeans the dignity of Muslim women. The organization's Secretary in Oyo state, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, spoke exclusively about the incident.
MURIC stated that while they received reports that Alaga Lamba had taken down the video and offered a private apology, this was insufficient. The organization insisted that such an offense demands a clear, open, and unequivocal public apology.
Mallam Agunbiade warned that if such behavior reoccurs from Alaga Lamba or any other content creator, MURIC would not hesitate to pursue appropriate legal action to protect the honor of Muslim women and the sanctity of Islamic symbols.
Broader Context of Religious Sensitivity
This incident occurs against the backdrop of increasing sensitivity around the portrayal of Muslim religious symbols in Nigerian media. In a related development, Muslim woman Sister Adiba Hayah had previously criticized actress Nancy Isime for wearing a hijab and niqab in a movie robbery scene.
The recurring theme of Muslim women's attire being used in inappropriate contexts has raised concerns about religious respect and cultural sensitivity in Nigeria's entertainment industry. Content creators are being urged to exercise greater caution when dealing with religious symbols to avoid offending faithful communities.
The controversy highlights the delicate balance between creative expression and religious respect in Nigeria's diverse society, where religious sentiments often run deep and must be handled with care by public figures and content creators alike.
