64th FirstBank Lagos Open Golf Tournament Commences with Caddies' Day

The prestigious 64th FirstBank Lagos Open Golf Tournament officially teed off yesterday, marking the start of a week-long celebration of the sport. The opening day at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section was dedicated to the caddies, who traded their usual supportive roles for the spotlight, taking the first competitive swings of the championship.

Tournament Schedule and Major Sponsors

The action continues tomorrow with the Championship kitty, followed by the Corporate Golf Challenge for Charity on Thursday. The main event, which is recognized by the USGA and the R&A as an international tournament, will run from Friday through Sunday, solidifying its status as a premier running golf tournament in Nigeria.

This year's edition has attracted significant sponsorship. FirstBank, the tournament's major sponsor, has significantly raised the stakes by committing a massive N34.5 million in cash and other prizes. They are joined by Platinum sponsors Sunbeth Global Concepts and Glenfiddich, as well as Bronze sponsors Arravo and Coscharis.

Sponsors Justify Their Support for the Sport

Representatives from the partnering companies have explained their involvement. Abdussamad Abdurrahman, Manager of Corporate Affairs and Communications at Sunbeth, stated that the partnership aligns with the core values associated with golf.

Babarinde Abiona, the General Manager of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Coscharis, highlighted that collaborating with FirstBank aims to enhance the tournament by uniting golfers and their associates. In a thrilling announcement, he revealed that Coscharis is staking a BMW as a hole-in-one prize.

Adding to the chorus of support, Dr. Ayo Adegboye, the Chief Executive Officer of Arravo, said their partnership with FirstBank is fundamentally aimed at engendering the growth of golf within the country.

The unveiling ceremony for the 64th Yearly Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship was graced by key figures, including Acting Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications for FirstBank Group, Olayinka Ijabiyi; Chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938, Akinwunmi Akintola; Captain of the club's Golf Section, Babatunde Oni; and Head of Treasury Sales and Derivatives Marketing for FirstBank Group, Ayokunle Ojo.
