Mumconfessions Hosts 'Mums Day Out' Wellness Event for 1,000 Mothers in Lekki

As part of International Women's Month celebrations, the parenting community Mumconfessions organized its second physical gathering, bringing together nearly 1,000 mothers and their children for a comprehensive wellness event in Lekki. The 'Mums Day Out' initiative was specifically designed to create a secure and interactive environment where mothers could relax, build networks, and access holistic support systems that are frequently absent from their everyday lives.

From Digital Support to Physical Connection

Founder Tinuke Atilade explained that while Mumconfessions has primarily functioned as an online support platform for women navigating various stages of motherhood—from fertility and pregnancy to postpartum and beyond—the physical gathering represented a strategic effort to deepen connections and amplify impact. "We are mostly online, but we decided to create opportunities for mothers to meet physically, to heal and grow together," Atilade stated. "The idea started with mums supporting each other with essential items, and it evolved into creating a space where those who want to give can meet those in need."

The initiative has experienced significant growth since its inception, with increased participation and brand support enabling a broader scope of engagement. This year's edition featured a "community corner" where mothers and mum-owned businesses donated items that were distributed free of charge to other attendees, fostering a spirit of generosity and mutual support.

Holistic Health and Wellness Services

Beyond leisure activities and networking opportunities, the event integrated critical health and wellness services that addressed both physical and mental wellbeing. Participants had access to:

  • Mental health screenings
  • Physical wellness checks
  • Fertility consultations
  • On-site counselling sessions structured in a "speed-dating" format

Experts across multiple disciplines—including psychologists, marriage counsellors, and business advisors—were available to provide tailored support to attendees. "We wanted this to be holistic. Not just fun or giveaways, but also addressing underlying issues," Atilade emphasized. "Mothers leave events and still return to the same pressures, so we are building resources that truly support healing and growth."

Childcare Support as a Key Feature

A particularly notable aspect of the event was the inclusion of a comprehensive childcare support system, which enabled mothers to participate fully without the burden of caregiving responsibilities. A dedicated baby lounge provided professional childcare services, allowing attendees to engage freely in various activities throughout the day.

Volunteer and parenting advocate Tolu Omorogbe described the initiative as a seamless extension of the platform's digital support into real-life impact. "Mumconfessions has always supported mums online, but today is about bringing that support offline. It's a full experience—wellness, gifts, free shopping and even child care. For many mothers, that level of support is priceless," Omorogbe observed.

She identified the childcare provision as a standout feature, highlighting its significance in addressing the invisible burden many women carry. "Most women are overwhelmed because of caregiving. Being able to enjoy yourself while someone safely cares for your child, it's everything," she added. Omorogbe also encouraged mothers to prioritize self-care, stressing that personal wellbeing forms the foundation of effective caregiving. "You can't pour from an empty cup. Love yourself, because what you give to yourself is what you give to others."

The 'Mums Day Out' event successfully demonstrated how digital parenting communities can translate online support into tangible, real-world benefits, creating spaces where mothers can find both practical assistance and emotional solidarity during International Women's Month and beyond.
