Adekunle Gold Makes History as First Headliner at Renovated National Theatre
Adekunle Gold Headlines First Show at New National Theatre

Nigerian music star Adekunle Kosoko, globally known as Adekunle Gold, has etched his name into the nation's cultural history books. On Thursday, December 26, 2025, he became the first artist to headline a major concert at the iconic, newly renovated National Theatre in Lagos, now officially renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre.

A Night of Grandeur and Orchestral Afrobeats

The event, dubbed 'Adekunle Gold Live at the National Theatre', was a complete sell-out, drawing thousands of enthusiastic fans from across Lagos. This landmark show signalled a powerful return for large-scale live performances at the historic venue, which had reopened its doors after renovation in October 2025. The concert's defining feature was a full live orchestra, which provided a rich, classical backdrop to Adekunle Gold's signature Afrobeats sound, creating a refined and elegant musical experience unlike typical shows.

Star-Studded Surprises and Nostalgic Moments

The night was packed with memorable highlights and special guest appearances. A major moment came when fellow superstar Olamide, who once signed Adekunle Gold to his YBNL Nation label in 2015, took to the stage for a theatrical introduction. Playfully referring to him as "one of the tiniest, most refined" artists, Olamide hailed AG Baby's "impeccable finesse" before welcoming him on stage, much to the crowd's delight.

Later, the audience was sent into a frenzy with the surprise appearance of Davido. The two hitmakers performed their popular collaboration, Only God Can Save Me, with fans singing along at the top of their voices. Adding a layer of classic Nigerian flavour, Adekunle Gold also brought out music legends Adewale Ayuba and Yinka Ayefele during his performance of Many People.

Setting the Stage for a New Era

Beyond the personal triumph for the artist, the concert marked a pivotal moment for the venue itself. Adekunle Gold's successful headline performance has effectively set a high standard and pace for future events at the renewed Wole Soyinka Centre. Addressing the ecstatic audience, the singer shared an inspiring message, urging them to never stop dreaming and to dare to be different on their own terms, signing off with his moniker, "Eja Nla."

This historic night not only celebrated Adekunle Gold's artistic journey from his Gold album debut to independent stardom but also powerfully reaffirmed the National Theatre's restored status as Nigeria's premier hub for world-class cultural events.
