A Nigerian clergyman has launched a fiery defence of Pastor Chris Okafor, following public allegations of a romantic affair made by Nollywood actress, Doris Ogala. Pastor Gideon Chika Onyeudo, popularly known as Beloved Onyeudo, made the controversial statements in a video posted to his Facebook page on December 23, 2025.
"You Are An Anti-Christ": Pastor Onyeudo's Stern Warning
In the video, the leader of Christ Divine Worship Assembly International did not mince words. He directly attacked individuals circulating the videos containing Doris Ogala's claims. Pastor Onyeudo asserted that anyone sharing the content is either an "anti-Christ" or a long-standing enemy of the church.
He argued that the motive behind spreading the allegations is a deep-seated hatred for Jesus Christ and a deliberate attempt to cause the downfall of Christianity by targeting its leaders. Onyeudo suggested that the controversy would, in fact, help Pastor Okafor identify the genuine members of his congregation from those with ulterior motives.
Interestingly, the pastor implied that public criticism stemmed from the fact the alleged affair did not result in marriage. "If he had married her, nobody would say anything," Onyeudo stated, claiming that the absence of marriage is why Okafor is now being labeled as "fake."
Sinners Judging Sinners: A Defence of Church Leadership
Pastor Onyeudo further delved into what he described as a hypocritical pattern of judgement within Christian circles. He claimed that both pastors and church members face identical judgement and consequences, yet pastors are often singled out for harsh criticism.
"It is simply sinners judging others for sinning differently," he declared. The cleric clarified that his stance was not an endorsement of wrongdoing but a plea for the church to protect its own from external attacks. He issued a stern warning that the ultimate goal of those spreading such allegations is to see churches shut down, emphasizing that an attack on a pastor is an attack on the entire congregation.
Netizens React: "Birds of The Same Feather"
The pastor's vigorous defence triggered a wave of criticism and debate on social media. Many Nigerians questioned his logic and accused him of shielding potentially unethical behaviour.
One user, @blossomcakes_lagos, retorted: "See antichrist himself talking, which church will fall? It's him that will fall, the church of Jesus Christ will keep marching on." Another comment from @olowoone read: "Obviously they are birds of same feathers... why is he defending someone that has not been justified yet?"
The sentiment of a coordinated defence among clerics was echoed by @David Zack, who wrote: "They're connected to the same dark network that's why you see them defending each other." Others, like @Adenikemi Idowu, questioned the basis of the defence, noting: "There is an atom of truth in every rumour."
Background: Doris Ogala's Ultimatum and Lawsuit
This clerical defence comes amidst an ongoing public feud. Prior to Onyeudo's comments, Doris Ogala had issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Pastor Chris Okafor. She demanded he withdraw a defamation lawsuit filed against social media critic VeryDarkMan and issue a public apology, threatening further exposure if he failed to comply.
The lawsuit itself stems from allegations made online by a woman identified as Miss Chi, who claimed to be the biological daughter of Pastor Okafor. The cleric's legal team confirmed plans to proceed with the suit, a move that prompted Ogala's dramatic intervention.
The situation remains a major talking point in Nigerian entertainment and religious circles, highlighting the intense scrutiny of public figures and the complex dynamics of faith, accountability, and public opinion in the digital age.
