Nollywood Suspends Actor Taiye Arimoro Over On-Set Altercation
Nollywood suspends actor Taiye Arimoro after set fight

The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, has announced a significant joint decision with two other major industry bodies to suspend actor Taiye Arimoro following a disruptive on-set incident involving actress and producer Peggy Ovire.

Rollas shared the news with an emotional statement, explaining that the verdict stems from a place of responsibility, compassion, and a desire to restore trust within the Nollywood community. He emphasized that the AGN operates as a family and that every action is taken to safeguard the wellbeing of its members.

Joint Verdict and Findings

According to an official joint document dated 27 November 2025, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) thoroughly reviewed the findings from their disciplinary committees.

The investigation concluded that Taiye Arimoro was the primary aggressor in the altercation that occurred on the set of Peggy Ovire's movie. The guilds found that he assaulted the production manager and the driver. Furthermore, he was found to have circulated a misleading live video that distorted the actual events and falsely implicated producer Peggy Ovire, who was not present during the initial fight.

The report cleared the director, production manager, and the rest of the crew of any wrongdoing.

Sanctions and Required Actions

In a unified decision, the three guilds have suspended Taiye Arimoro from all Nollywood productions indefinitely. The suspension will remain in effect until further notice.

As part of his sanctions, Arimoro is mandated to:

  • Issue a public apology to the production manager, Peggy Ovire, and the director.
  • Release a corrective video that clearly states the actual sequence of events.
  • Return to complete his remaining scenes for the movie Pieces of Love under supervised conditions.
  • Fully comply with any further instructions from the guilds.

The guilds also addressed the conduct of producer Peggy Ovire. While she was not involved in the initial physical altercation, the joint statement noted that her emotional reaction at the estate gate contributed to the escalation of the incident outside the compound. Consequently, she is required to:

  • Write official apology letters to the three guilds.
  • Apologize to the estate management.
  • Submit a written undertaking committing to better personnel handling on her future sets.
  • Sign an undertaking on behalf of her driver, Joshua.

Industry-Wide Implications and New Code

In their statement, the guilds strongly reaffirmed Nollywood's zero-tolerance policy towards violence, intimidation, harassment, or any form of misconduct on movie sets. To prevent future occurrences, they announced that work has officially begun on the creation of a unified On-Set Conduct and Safety Code that will guide productions across Nigeria.

The historic joint statement was signed by Queen Blessing Ebigieson for the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Uche Agbo for the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), and Emeka Rollas for the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). Copies of the verdict have been sent to relevant industry and security authorities.
