Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Ogun State, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo. Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Adeola's Condolence Message
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, issued a formal condolence message to Hassan's family on Sunday. The statement, signed by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, was released to journalists on the same day, as reported by The Punch.
The senator described Hassan's death as "a monumental loss to the creative and entertainment industry," noting that the impact extended beyond entertainment to his family, Ogun State, and Nigeria at large. He said, "I am greatly saddened by the death of a brother who believed and worked assiduously for my cause and the cause of our people. I sympathise with his immediate family for their efforts and struggles to keep the dearly departed alive following his illness. God knows best in all circumstances."
Legacy and Family Support
Adeola highlighted Hassan's work in filmmaking and his advocacy for a better society, calling it a legacy worth emulating. He promised that Hassan would not be forgotten and pledged continued support to the immediate family during this difficult period.
The news of Hassan's death was confirmed by multiple sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood. Oloketuyi announced the passing on social media, writing: "Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life."
Burial Arrangements and Family Reaction
Hassan's daughter, Kaira Taiwo, addressed the death during a live session on Instagram on Sunday, visibly emotional and expressing disbelief over losing her father. Earlier, Kira Taiwo broke down in tears on a live stream, reacting to a cleric who shared details of visiting her ailing father. She accused people of trying to profit from her father's health crisis and asked them to fear God.
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko announced that Hassan's remains would be taken to his hometown in Ilaro, Ogun State. Special prayers for the late actor were scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Pavilion in Ilaro.
