Farooq Oreagba Shares Cancer Battle on World Cancer Day

Cultural ambassador and renowned style icon Farooq Oreagba has courageously shared the intimate details of his prolonged and private struggle with cancer, marking World Cancer Day with a powerful personal testimony. In a heartfelt revelation, Oreagba described how a simple routine hospital appointment dramatically altered the course of his life forever.

A Life-Changing Diagnosis

Speaking on World Cancer Day, observed annually on February 4, Oreagba disclosed that exactly twelve years ago, on February 3, 2014, he visited a medical facility for a precautionary scan. He emphasized that he did not feel unwell at the time but was merely exercising caution. One week later, the test results delivered news that he says will remain etched in his memory for eternity.

He was diagnosed with stage one multiple myeloma, a form of cancer that aggressively targets plasma cells within the bone marrow. At that moment, there was no known family history of cancer in his lineage, and his youngest child was merely two years old. Oreagba recounted that the devastating diagnosis completely upended his world, yet he resolved with unwavering determination to confront the illness head-on.

The Grueling Treatment Journey

Oreagba revealed that he commenced chemotherapy shortly after receiving the diagnosis. In August 2014, he underwent a stem cell transplant, a procedure that proved to be successful. Months later, on February 4, 2015, medical professionals declared him to be in complete remission—a date he describes as profoundly symbolic and unforgettable.

However, despite achieving remission, his arduous journey was far from concluded. He proceeded to complete an additional seven years of chemotherapy, bringing the total duration of his treatment to eight full years. Oreagba finally concluded his medical regimen in August 2022, marking the end of an extensive and challenging therapeutic process.

Life After Treatment

Presently, Oreagba states that he only attends routine quarterly checkups to monitor his health. He continues to live his life with a profound sense of gratitude and purpose, embracing each day with renewed vigor. His story serves as an inspiring testament to resilience and hope in the face of adversity.
