UNICEF and Ondo State Government Strengthen Alliance to Combat Lassa Fever Outbreaks

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has significantly bolstered its collaboration with the Ondo State Government to enhance efforts in preventing and raising public awareness about Lassa fever within the state. This strategic move was emphasized during a recent courtesy visit by UNICEF representatives to key officials in Akure, the state capital.

High-Level Meeting Highlights Urgent Health Concerns

During the visit, Mrs Aderonke Akinola-Akinwole, UNICEF's Social and Behaviour Change Specialist (SBCC), and Mrs Monike Orhorhemreni, an SBCC officer, met with Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku. Akinola-Akinwole underscored that the prevalence of Lassa fever across Nigeria continues to pose a severe public health threat, necessitating immediate and sustained action.

"UNICEF's ongoing campaigns are meticulously designed to educate communities about the causes, prevention methods, and control measures for Lassa fever," she stated, highlighting the organization's dedication to mitigating this infectious disease through targeted awareness initiatives.

State Government Commends UNICEF's Consistent Support

Commissioner Ajanaku expressed profound appreciation for UNICEF's longstanding partnership with Ondo State, describing the international body as a reliable ally in health communication and developmental projects. He reiterated the state's unwavering commitment to backing all campaigns focused on promoting public health and preventing disease outbreaks, with a particular emphasis on Lassa fever.

"We pledge to enhance collaboration through our ministry to ensure broader sensitization of residents, as maintaining a healthy society remains a top priority for this administration," Ajanaku affirmed, stressing the importance of community-wide engagement in health matters.
