She tragically passed away on April 14, 2026, after developing severe complications shortly after successfully delivering triplets. The news has sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting the risks associated with childbirth even for healthcare professionals.

Emergency Transfer and Medical Efforts
According to family accounts, Dr Ogbachi initially gave birth to the triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri. However, complications arose shortly after delivery, necessitating an emergency transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa. Medical staff at FMC Yenagoa made desperate attempts to stabilize her condition as it deteriorated rapidly.
Relatives recounted the harrowing scene, noting that doctors and experts worked tirelessly to revive her. "We watched her struggling to live, we watched her gasping for breath, we watched how the team of doctors and other experts in FMC kept trying their best to revive her," the family statement detailed. They further revealed that her oxygen levels dropped significantly during the emergency response, with the SpO2 machine reading downwards from 70 to 50 and then to 0, indicating a critical decline in her health.
Community and Professional Reactions
Dr Ogbachi was a member of the Nigerian Medical Association and served as a registrar at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital. Her death has left colleagues and the broader medical community in mourning. She is survived by her newborn triplets, adding a layer of poignancy to the tragedy. Efforts to obtain an official statement from hospital authorities were ongoing at the time of reporting, underscoring the sensitivity and ongoing nature of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
This incident echoes broader concerns about maternal healthcare in Nigeria, where complications during childbirth remain a significant issue. It serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by women, even those with medical expertise, during pregnancy and delivery. The family's account highlights the urgent need for enhanced medical protocols and support systems to prevent such tragedies in the future.
