Easter Fun-Seekers in Calabar Task Nigerians on Mental Health Amid Economic Hardships
In Calabar, a group of fun-seekers has issued a heartfelt appeal to Nigerians, urging them to find ways to relax and enjoy their lives even in the face of ongoing economic challenges. This advice aims to help prevent mental and other health problems that can arise from constant stress and pressure.
The fun-seekers shared their insights in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar yesterday. They were observed at the Airport Field, an amusement park, where they were actively enjoying themselves and making the most of the Easter holiday.
Emphasizing the Importance of Relaxation
The respondents stressed that Nigerians should seize opportunities to unwind and find joy in their current situations to maintain a healthy life. They highlighted that waiting for the economy to improve before allowing oneself to have fun could lead to more severe consequences if health issues develop in the meantime.
Mrs. Cynthia Affiong, a public servant based in Calabar, elaborated on this point. She explained that the absence of relaxation might create mental health problems, which could then degenerate into other health issues. To combat this, she was picnicking with family and friends to celebrate Easter, demonstrating a proactive approach to well-being.
She said, "I really think it is important for Nigerians to look for a way to relax, even though I know that it's difficult to find something that will make you smile when you look around." Mrs. Affiong also appealed to leaders at all levels across the nation to continue their efforts to make the country better and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
Finding Happiness Within
Similarly, Mr. Timi John, who was relaxing in the park with his children, shared his perspective. He noted that he took advantage of the public holiday declared by the Federal Government to spend quality time with his kids. Mr. John acknowledged that times are hard but emphasized the necessity of celebrating Easter with his family.
He added that individuals must find happiness within themselves to overcome the country's challenges, reinforcing the idea that personal well-being is crucial for resilience. This sentiment echoes the broader message from the fun-seekers: prioritizing mental health through relaxation and enjoyment is essential, especially during festive periods like Easter.
The call from these Calabar residents serves as a reminder for Nigerians to balance life's demands with moments of joy and self-care, fostering a healthier society overall.
