Authorities in Adamawa State have launched a search for a university lecturer who mysteriously disappeared from his hospital bed in Yola while receiving treatment for serious mental health conditions.

Details of the Disappearance

The missing individual is Emmanuel Peter, a 40-year-old lecturer from the Department of Public Administration at Muhammadu Buhari University, which was formerly known as the University of Maiduguri. Peter was a patient at the Psychiatric Ward of the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH) in Yola.

He was diagnosed with a combination of severe health challenges, including a psychotic disorder, seizure episodes, and substance abuse addiction. His sudden disappearance from the medical facility has raised significant concerns for his safety and wellbeing.

Police Appeal for Public Assistance

The Adamawa State Police Command has officially taken up the case and issued a 'Missing Person' notice. The notice was released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje.

Police described Emmanuel Peter as a man with a dark complexion who is fluent in three languages: Hausa, Marghi, and English. They emphasized the urgent need to locate him so he can resume his critical medical treatment.

The Command has made a direct appeal to the public, stating: “Members of the public with useful information that could assist in locating him are kindly urged to report at the nearest Police Station, Office of the PPRO or contact 0706 290 1177, 08065803697.”

The incident, which occurred on March 12, 2025, highlights the vulnerabilities faced by individuals undergoing treatment for mental health crises. The police have not provided details on how Peter left the hospital or the exact time he went missing.
