Akinoso Tasks Oyo PDP on Commitment for 2027 Elections

In a strategic move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has inaugurated a new caretaker committee with a clear mandate to unify the party and secure victory.

Akinoso's Call for Unity and Total Commitment

Professor Rahman Akinoso, the newly appointed Chairman of the 17-member PDP Caretaker Committee, has issued a strong appeal to all party members. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Ibadan, Akinoso stressed that the party's success hinges on the collective effort of every stakeholder. "Winning elections requires the total commitment of all members," he declared.

He assured members that grievances within the party would be addressed, with all activities strictly following the party's constitution and the rule of law. The committee, inaugurated on the directive of the PDP National Working Committee led by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, is set to officially commence its activities on January 9, 2026.

Mandate: Grassroots Mobilization and Inclusive Democracy

The core assignment given to the caretaker committee is multifaceted and critical for the PDP's future in Oyo State. Its primary objectives include:

  • Strengthening the party's structures at the grassroots level.
  • Ensuring transparency in membership drives and delegate elections.
  • Guaranteeing fair leadership representation across wards, local governments, and the state.

Prof. Akinoso emphasized that the focus is on building a solid foundation through participatory democracy. "All stakeholders, leaders, members, women, and youths, will be consulted, and their interests factored into our decisions," he added, highlighting his inclusive approach.

Leadership and Transition

Bringing over three decades of experience as a former youth leader, trade unionist, and public servant, Prof. Akinoso pledged to use his vast political and administrative expertise to steer the committee effectively. He also addressed the transition of power, reminding the dissolved Oyo State Executive Committee to hand over all party properties to the new team.

This action reinforces the decision taken at the PDP's 103rd National Executive Committee meeting on November 18, 2025. "The responsibility is enormous, but we are committed to ensuring a fair and inclusive process for all members," Akinoso stated, underlining that a robust party structure is non-negotiable for electoral success.

Party leaders present at the event echoed the need for cohesion, discipline, and participatory governance as the essential ingredients for mobilizing members and winning elections. The inauguration is widely viewed as a pivotal step to consolidate the PDP's base and position it strongly for the 2027 polls.
