APGA Stakeholders Rally Behind Ike Cubana for 2027 House of Representatives Bid
In a significant political development, stakeholders of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State have voiced strong support for Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Ike Cubana, as he declares his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election. This move comes despite his brother, businessman Obi Cubana, aligning with the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) through the City Boy Movement.
Unwavering Party Loyalty Amid Family Political Divergence
Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu, the APGA chairmanship candidate for Idemili South Local Government Area, emphasized in an exclusive interview that Ike Cubana's political future remains secure within APGA. Ilogbenu, who currently serves as Councillor for Nnobi Ward 2, asserted that the constituency's strong APGA dominance ensures a favorable outcome for Ike Cubana, regardless of his brother's affiliation with the APC.
"Obi Cubana's tie with APC's City Boy Movement won't affect Ike Cubana's chance of winning the House of Representatives election under APGA come 2027," Ilogbenu stated confidently. "Anambra state is APGA. Idemili North and South Federal Constituency is entirely APGA. We have our own way of doing things here - we reward loyalty and faithfulness."
Ike Cubana's Declaration and Call for Collective Action
During a ceremony attended by party stalwarts and stakeholders from all 25 wards in the federal constituency, Ike Cubana formally announced his re-election bid. He highlighted the need for improved representation, stating that Idemili North and South have suffered from inadequate federal presence and poor governance over the past three years.
"I call this meeting for the good and welfare of the good people of Idemili North and Idemili South LGAs," Ike Cubana declared. "We contested in the 2023 general election, but all of us saw how it went. We put in time and resources, but we all saw how it went. This time, again, I've presented myself for this same position."
He stressed that his campaign would require a collective effort from all supporters and APGA faithful to ensure success, emphasizing that victory would benefit the entire constituency and strengthen the party.
Local Leaders Express Confidence in Ike Cubana's Candidacy
Several prominent APGA leaders echoed support for Ike Cubana during the event. Hon. Lemmy Ekpo, chairman of APGA in Idemili North Local Government Area, criticized the current representative for failing to deliver good governance and expressed confidence in Ike Cubana's capacity to serve genuinely.
Hon. Kizito Anoliefo, chairman of APGA in Idemili South, represented by his deputy Hon. Celestine Igwe, commended Ike Cubana for his steadfast commitment to the party. He noted that lessons learned from the 2023 election would help APGA secure victory in 2027 and urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to participate actively.
Community Endorsements and Historical Support
Chief Ifeanyi Muoemenam, President General of Umuoji Improvement Union, recalled his community's support for Ike Cubana and APGA during the 2023 election and pledged to replicate this backing in 2027. He drew parallels to their successful support for Governor Soludo in the 2025 governorship election, promising similar efforts for Ike Cubana.
Hon. Amaka Obi, Mayor of Idemili South LGA, announced that the constituency would speak with one voice in support of Ike Cubana during the 2027 election. "During the 2025 governorship election in Anambra, we spoke with one voice and gave Mr. Governor a resounding victory. We shall do the same in 2027 for Ike Cubana," she affirmed.
Hon. Don Onyenji, Commissioner for Arts and Culture, added that APGA has thoroughly prepared for the 2027 elections and is poised to win at both federal and state levels, reinforcing the party's strategic readiness.
Broader Political Context and Celebrity Alignments
This development occurs within a broader political landscape where several Nigerian celebrities have publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid under the APC for 2027. Notable figures such as Obi Cubana and Cubana Chiefpriest have joined pro-Tinubu groups, while Nollywood actors Yul Edochie, Bolanle Ninalowo, and comedian Seyi Law have secured campaign roles. Other celebrities, including Saidi Balogun, 9ice, and various social media influencers, have also expressed support for Tinubu, highlighting the intersection of entertainment and politics ahead of the crucial 2027 elections.
