Ekiti PDP Sounds Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Nullify Primary Results
The Peoples Democratic Party leadership in Ekiti State has raised serious concerns about what they describe as subterranean moves by party enemies to overturn the outcome of the recently concluded governorship primary election.
Prominent party figures including former Speaker of the Ekiti State Assembly, Kola Oluwawole, and the party's 2022 deputy governorship candidate, Deji Ogunsakin, have come forward to expose these alleged plots. They are joined by other significant party stakeholders Segun Adeola and Makanjuola Ogundipe in this crucial intervention.
Appeal to Governor Makinde and National Leadership
The concerned leaders have made a direct appeal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the national leadership of the PDP to intervene and prevent what they see as an attempt to undermine the democratic process within the party.
During a press conference held in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, the leaders emphasized that Dr. Wole Oluyede emerged as the legitimate winner of the keenly contested primary election. The election results showed Oluyede polling 279 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr. Funso Ayeni, who secured 239 votes, while Theresa Funmi Ogun trailed with 27 votes.
The leaders described the primary election as free, fair and credible, supervised by former governor and former Accountant General of the Federation, Ibrahim Dankwabo, who announced the results under peaceful conditions.
Reconciliation Efforts and Party Unity
In a positive development for party unity, Dr. Oluyede has initiated reconciliation efforts by paying a courtesy visit to one of the aggrieved contestants from the primary election, Mrs. Funmilayo Ogun.
Oluyede praised Mrs. Ogun as a good supporting sister and formidable politician who genuinely loves the party. In response, Mrs. Ogun stated that her actions were motivated by the need to promote peace and strengthen the PDP's chances of winning the governorship election in Ekiti next year.
The Ekiti PDP leaders remain resolute in their determination to win the June 20, 2026 governorship election and have warned against any attempts to compromise their chosen candidate's victory.
